Has anyone had experience with Furniture specifications. Or know a product which will work well with BIM technology.

We were already wondering about specs, and now comes along BIM.

Like this poster, I also wonder about furniture's role in BIM and vice versa. My company manufactures early childhood and primary furniture used in child development centers, schools, and office buildings' daycare centers. Our products are usually considered part of the furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) portion of a construction project. FF&E is sometimes considered part of a GC's award, and sometimes not.

LEED teaches us that what we put into a building is as important for air quality and occupant health as the materials with which we construct the building. So LEED has a place (several credits' worth) for furniture.

Does BIM?

We put together Spec books for FF& E prodocts and specification. I have been in the industry for a long time and have not come accross a software which will work well. We have created our own spec sheets and books. And updated time to time as required. But there is usually a lot of repetative work. I have been searching a software for FF&E package and spec books and will work well in the BIM culture.
If anyone can shed some light on it will be great help.

I have created a Microsoft Access template that we our firm can use for furniture and finish spec books, schedules, product lists, etc. All the home-grown versions I have seen have one common feature: There are three basic tables, one specifying the particular type of unit, one listing all project locations (usually rooms), and a many-to-many link table showing which units are in which rooms.

Because there are so many possible permutations of this, the formatting and interface are a bear, and I would prefer to use a commercial product if there were one. It sounds like there is not.
