Putting the "I" in BIM

CSI has an important and expanding role in the development of Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM requires new approaches for organizing and managing the Information generated by the model and the many building team members that work with it. Where our standards and practice guidelines have focused on document-centric processes, they now need to address model-centric practices. CSI has a number of initiatives to support the changes in practice taking place in the industry:

• OmniClass Construction Classification System (OCCS)
• IFD Library project
• Updating UniFormat and creating a new accompanying format for project descriptions, PPDFormat
• Participation in the buildingSMART Alliance and in the development of the National Building Information Modeling Standard (NBIMS)
