  • February 7, 2pm ET: Binding Arbitration -- Do You or Don’t You?
The construction industry has long been a business leader in trying to achieve more efficient and predictable means of final dispute resolution. The escalating costs of going to "court" and the realities of trying to get a Judge or jury to understand complicated construction terms and issues results in great unpredictability. Agreeing to resolve disputes through the use of binding arbitration instead of the court system has always been a method of solving these problems.
  • February 16, 2pm ET: Avoid Wall Flashing Leaks -- Material Options for Through-Wall Flashing
Based on the article in the November 2011 issue of the Construction Specifier, this webinar discusses concealed building components such as built-in wall flashings are often modified or eliminated as part of the value engineering process. While these hidden components add little to the building’s visual appearance, wall flashings are essential parts of its weather protection system. Often, decisions made in the name of cost efficiency provide very modest monetary savings when compared to the resulting degradation in reliability and durability. The speaker looks at various building failures and explores what could have been done differently to provide a better chance for success. The presentation takes a critical, balanced look at various flashing system options, detailing the associated advantages and drawbacks.

  • March 29, 2pm ET: Top 10 Things Your College Professor Doesn't Prepare You For
Work in the construction industry at times seems very different from what your college professor once taught you in class. There are 'rules of the thumb' and the 'unsaid truths' as there are in any other industry. These rules are not in a rule book or a text book. They are learned through experience.
  • April 3, 2pm ET: Legal Analysis: Performance vs. Design Specifications
One of the biggest challenges a contractor faces is the accurate interpretation and execution of building specifications, which can pose critical legal risks for all parties involved, including the designers and engineers who develop the specifications. While both design and performance specifications are frequently used in construction projects, the way they are handled from a legal perspective can greatly differ.
